Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Yes, unless a fee invoice for the kind notification follows 🙂 ( ... then the compliment would be bought. ;-) )

Especially since you are presumably self-taught. ;-)

I have an additional question and would appreciate photos. I couldn’t find a better thread for this, and if you respond with photos, I think my question fits well here—just like the question about house number installation. If you know a better place for this, please let me know for future reference.

What do/did your temporary mailboxes look like, and did you make them yourselves? Or did you have a permanent mailbox installed or set up right away when you registered with the local authorities? I would actually prefer to buy and install the final mailbox only after living in the house for a while and getting a feel for how we want to design the front yard and entrance area.

I don’t understand. You already have a rough idea of your (front) garden, don’t you? Do you want it in pink, matching the flowers? Then just buy one. … it takes 1-2 years for the first bloom to appear.

In my opinion, it’s best to choose something that fits the house. Then it will also suit the front yard (although I would always base such decisions on the house). The same applies to every accessory in a specific room: you don’t choose kitchen handles based on your dish towels, but according to the kitchen cabinets, right? ( 🤨)

Temporary Mailbox

...Temporary mailbox 😀 That’s really funny 😀

I agree completely with @ypg—if the overall appearance including the mailbox matters, then you should plan it right from the start along with the house.
Since our garden is located "in front of the house," we had to consider the “doorbell situation” anyway and decided to install a built-in mailbox including a doorbell in the concrete pillar of the carport.

This is what our "temporary" mailbox looked like. I didn’t have one, and the fence was already in place when we moved in. Otherwise, I would have bought a simple, inexpensive box and attached it to a wooden post. That’s pretty much what everyone does. 😉

I am imagining a rather nostalgic mailbox, something like the one in the photo, but I am not yet sure where exactly on the property we will place it, as we have not finalized the pathway layout either. As far as I know, it needs to be set in concrete, and I do not want or plan to move it later.

Historic green metal mailbox with ornaments, POST lettering, door lock with key.
