Hello,
we will be moving into our house soon, which does not yet have exterior plastering. This is planned to be done in autumn 2019 or spring 2020.
However, until then, we already need a mailbox, house number, and outdoor lighting.
What is the best way to approach this?
I am thinking that when the exterior plaster is applied, everything will have to be removed again, and the anchors will be covered by the plaster.
Would it be better, for example, to put up a cheap freestanding mailbox as a temporary solution instead of mounting an expensive one directly onto the unfinished wall and painting the house number on the wall? Or just buy what you intend to keep for a longer period?

Usually, this is how it’s done during the construction phase.
A mailbox from the hardware store is attached to any wooden or metal post, and the number is painted on.
We simply drove a fence post into the ground and then attached a box to it using two pipe clamps.
When the actual fence was installed later, a proper mailbox was mounted on the fence panel.
The number was then put on the house (after having a holder embedded in the wall).

We are moving on Saturday and still haven’t found a solution (because something more urgent came up)... :-(
Our site manager suggested: buy a “proper” mailbox (the one we want to keep long-term) and anchor it with wall plugs. Then, for the exterior plastering, remove it and re-anchor it again. The old plugs would likely remain in the masonry.
What do you think? Or should we just attach it to a pallet? But that would only lean against the wall, which I’m not really convinced about either.
We will do the house number with spray paint or regular paint...
