Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

We decided on an electric sunshade, providing sun protection just like under a beach umbrella.

A wooden canopy with waterproofing and greenery was installed.
We definitely did not want glass...

Cool! 🙂 Is there a photo of it?

Thank you for your positive feedback 🙂 The doors throughout the house are 2.50 meters (8 feet 2 inches) high. While we have a ceiling height of 2.75 meters (9 feet) downstairs, we could only implement 2.65 meters (8 feet 8 inches) upstairs due to the limited ridge height. Baseboards would not have looked good next to the flush doors. We originally planned a shadow gap, but this would have involved an unimaginable amount of effort. Therefore, the floor installers and plasterers had to work edge to edge to create a clean transition from the wall to the floor without baseboards. This didn’t exactly excite the two trades, but it works. The floor is linoleum (Wikipedia: “The main advantage of linoleum is its resistance to mechanical and chemical stress. ... Linoleum is antistatic, slightly fungicidal, and bacteriostatic (meaning it inhibits bacterial growth).”). We installed it in the hope that it might at least resist wear and tear from our children for a while... as it has proven reliable in public areas.

Good luck with your project, the ceiling heights and flush doors sound great.

With this “edge to edge” solution, are no unevenness or gaps visible at the joint when looking closely? I imagine that would be very difficult. May I ask why shadow gaps are so demanding, or were they just particularly challenging in your case?

Me too. I’m still looking for a good shading solution for our south/west terrace.
