At home, we have barns with untreated spruce wood facades. For 50 years. And they still look great. They wouldn’t really need any treatment. I think it always depends on personal preference and how you want it to look 🙂 I like untreated wood. It’s not everyone’s preference when it turns gray and develops cracks, but I find it great.
