After our parents kept complaining that the stairs in our house didn’t have handrails—especially the stairs to the basement, which are difficult for older people to use (there is one step less than going upstairs, but it couldn’t be avoided)—we finally got a handrail installed today:

A local steel fabricator made it for us; it’s made from raw steel (treated in some way to prevent black marks on your hands). We really like it. At first, stainless steel was considered, but this fits better with our interior.
Another task completed 😎

well done ...
I’ve always wondered how such parts are crafted so precisely, since everything has to be exact and the distances between points are so far apart. You can’t just hold it in place and bend it a little afterwards...
I also need a handrail (actually, the entire staircase needs one) and I would like to incorporate as much “flow” as possible – like they often did in the past...

One more thing checked off the list 😎 How much does something like that cost per meter approximately? We still need a handrail too. Isn’t it actually required? I think this topic has come up before.

At least the house was approved without one.
As long as there is no official approval from the building authority, it is not a problem initially.
The building regulations specify how fall hazards, stairs, and similar areas must be secured.
In a single-family house, it can be done that way. However, in case of an accident, the insurance company may refuse coverage.
