Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

So, a walk-in kitchen pantry. Nice idea.

For me, there wouldn’t be enough space around the cooktop, but maybe you don’t need it if you can place everything on the island. (I can’t really judge, I don’t have one)

No, I didn’t.

But the forum (some time ago) said all of that was impractical ...

Funny!

I thought the same. Placing a stove against a wall definitely takes a lot of stubbornness... I assume that was one of the points being criticized? And secondly, the sink right next to it? But it doesn’t matter – pictures are what count here. Discussing it afterwards doesn’t accomplish anything.

Exactly, that's what the work island is for – otherwise, I agree with you, there isn’t much space, and this was initially a concern for us and a major criticism in that particular forum.

But it works absolutely fine.

Stubbornness? Until a few years ago, this was completely normal – then the cooking island became trendy, which we also had at one point and which also proved to be impractical.

But those were the main points of criticism, along with the space around the cooking island. And generally, the walkways…

No, that’s not what I mean. Whether there is an island or not: a wall next to a stove limits you, at least for someone who juggles several pots and sometimes needs to quickly put something, like a pot, down next to the stove in order to continue working without heat.

My parents’ kitchen and my grandparents’ kitchen, so over generations without an island, had the burner, meaning the stove, free-standing with enough counter space next to it. Only in a kitchenette or a 3-meter (10 feet) kitchen run could it get a bit tight.

There is also enough space next to it for two pots – so I’m not too worried that it won’t work out.

How wide is your hallway and your living room windows?
The hallway is 2.20 m (7 ft 3 in) wide. The living room windows/patio doors have a rough opening size of 181 cm (71 inches). We had some quiet doubts about whether the passage width of a single door leaf might be too narrow. Today I would say: completely sufficient and good!
