Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

On one hand, that sounds unlikely, but on the other, you have to admit: the way the drainage is shown almost convinces you while sitting that you’re imagining unnecessary movement while reading it.

In what way? The stone has to be measured, cut, and carried no matter which method you use. What was frustrating for us was that even the smallest deviations were immediately penalized. With the other approach, only the carpenter is at fault if the cuts are not made precisely.

Measuring and cutting is not always necessary; when building up between two rafters, the stones are only stepped into place. The pallet with the stones is lifted onto the top floor slab in front of the roof structure, so you don’t have to keep going down and back up all the time.

A wooden beam ceiling might have been a good idea, but then we would still have had the cutting machine on the ground floor, and cutting by hand would have been even more tedious given the amount.

But let's leave it at that. As we’ve realized, there are many ways to reach the goal.

On topic: We are currently waiting for Nordly's Ahmeds to finish grouting so the scaffolding can be removed. We’re now paying an extra €70 per week for the scaffolding... seems like it won’t happen until next year after all.

The unheated attic is airtight.

Not much spectacular is happening at our place right now, but some small things:

Our windows have now been fitted with their hardware:

Interior with large white window frames and handles, view outside to trees.

And on the outside, we now have window sills, and the windows have been “neaten up” (the recesses have been closed off with boards):

Exterior view of a wooden house with window front, narrow metal gutter, and water droplets, sunset.

The protective film is still on!

Inside, the ventilation ducts are now installed:

Green flexible ducts hanging between exposed wooden studs at a construction site.

Green flexible hoses hanging from the ceiling along a wooden wall; a man stands in the doorway holding a box.

There’s quite a lot coming together!
