Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Here is the garage view from the other side...
Visually, it has become quite cold.

The carpenter was here today and worked very hard, although a bit chaotic.

He forgot to order the two roof windows, so we are leaving them out since the kitchen is bright enough anyway.
A nice side effect is that we save over 2,000€ when you consider the additional costs for sealing.

The flat roof contractor will come by next week at the latest to do their job. The green roofing might not happen until next year, but that’s not a problem.

I’m really happy 🙂

Where the beam is missing at the front, we’ll put a swing there, and later maybe a hanging chair or something like that.

Modern house extension with wooden terrace roof over stone block wall and illuminated interiors.

Great!
That’s still our plan as well, although we’re wavering again because of the glass. The advantage of this design is that it can be adjusted later on. If the natural light works out well, that would be ideal.

Looks great! By the way, the house, the stone wall, and the whole surroundings look fantastic too 😀 Are you planning to apply a stain or something similar, or will it stay natural?

Thank you, we still really like it a lot.

We actually want to leave it untreated, but I’m a bit worried that due to the fairly exposed location it might weather and deteriorate too quickly.
The carpenter said that wouldn’t be an issue, it would just darken.
That wouldn’t be a problem for us.

What do the experts say? Is a coating necessary?
From above, it will be protected in the future by waterproofing along with a parapet flashing.

It doesn’t get damaged, it only changes color.
There is no strict rule here. We are currently painting our wooden facade, and later the carport with a kind of weathering stain. Of course, there are many different opinions about this, but this is how we are doing it. I always coated our previous patio roof with Sikkens, and it was still in great condition after 20 years. However, I don’t know how it will perform on parts that are directly exposed to rain. It’s mostly a matter of personal preference, but you should decide this quickly. If the wood changes color unevenly due to weathering in some areas, you won’t be able to achieve a uniform color with a stain afterward.
