Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Kids get things dirty faster than you can clean (Gerburg says: men too).

That’s something completely different... I think I once had one like that from Playmobil (-:
Really very nice... How did you come up with this design?
I’m curious about that?

On one hand, the location is quite special—a gap in a residential area with many older houses loosely connected. So the ultra-modern Bauhaus look was definitely out of the question, as it would have looked out of place.
On the other hand, my family and I have often experienced while traveling that after looking at buildings for a while, we’d say it’s a shame that houses aren’t built like this anymore. We appreciate something more playful and a bit unusual. Because of the sloping terrain, we didn’t want a (modern) townhouse, as having three visible stories would have made it look quite tower-like (two stories would have been too small for us). A hip roof was considered but lost out to a mansard roof in terms of style.

I find it unfortunate when forms that are simply not ultra-clean are already considered "playful." Often I think one would need to establish a society dedicated to preserving the mansard roof and collectively purchase a development plot to create a project-specific zoning plan if you want to avoid cookie-cutter designs. Many recent zoning plans aren’t openly opposed to mansard roofs, but they effectively exclude them through textual height restrictions.

The price takes care of the rest. Many young builders are not exactly stingy but are reluctant to pay the cost of two roofs when there are structural alternatives to the simple expenses.

In the end, interior design is always a matter of personal taste. It feels a bit too "dead" to me as well... but that will definitely change once there are children involved...

Well, I’d say this: Everything that’s white right now will definitely change.

I’m just saying the walls have poor insulation.
