Strahleman22 Oct 2020 14:36Really interesting. As I said, I would never have considered something like this and I am relying on the expertise of the builder here. They have built several semi-detached houses in this area over the past decades. I also quickly checked online. In other forums, the separation is also discussed controversially, partly because separate foundations might have issues with water penetration between the slabs.
However, I will also ask the building savings contract for their opinion on this. At this point, it would still be possible to saw and separate it.

I wouldn’t have even thought about separating the concrete slab for sound insulation. There are so many things to consider and watch out for.
I see it as not a major issue. All the basement rooms are utility rooms, not living spaces, and the same goes for the neighbors. But unfortunately, you will have sound on every floor. When your neighbor’s dryer starts up, you might be able to hear it in your bedroom...

However, our house’s values are such that, in a normally used house, this cannot fall below (?) the dB limits of our house. Based on the soil report, they see the risk of water infiltration with a separated slab as greater, so they would not recommend it in our case. From their perspective, this does not represent a cost-benefit balance.
I hope I have conveyed this correctly.

Shared foundation slab for two houses? Hopefully the sound doesn’t carry too much. Probably a reason why I won’t be posting any photos of my construction progress here. There’s always someone who finds something to criticize, and there’s always some controversial aspect where others would have done things differently. This isn’t necessarily negative or complaining about UpperEast specifically. But then you think, “damn, the sound carries through the foundation slab,” and after moving in you become more aware of it and might even convince yourself it’s true. If you hadn’t read about it here, you might not have noticed it at all.

If you hadn’t read it here, you might not have noticed at all. That really can’t be denied. For this reason, I also didn’t create a thread for the floor plan. On one hand, the floor plan was already finalized when I signed up, and on the other, I wanted to avoid feeling unsettled since it was already “too late.”
Recently, I did post it anyway, but by now I know our skin is thick enough, and we’re confident that we did the right thing for ourselves.
This forum is great, and I’ve gained a tremendous amount of input so far (and certainly will in the future).
In the end, though, you have to make the decision yourself according to your own conviction.
