At first, I also thought the spark guard was unnecessary. However, without it, we would definitely already have some burn marks on our parquet flooring. No matter how carefully you add the logs, eventually one will shift, sparks will fly, and something might fall out. You simply can’t avoid it entirely.

AndreasI don’t think it’s unnecessary at all, just unattractive.
There’s no doubt that a spark guard makes sense.
