Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

But we also have a well that we can pump from...

There has been a lot of activity on the construction site in recent days, but you can’t see much real progress yet. The perimeter insulation along with the associated dimpled membranes has been installed. Today, the tradespeople laid the drainage around the foundation slab and started the partial backfilling. Next Monday, the scaffolding company will arrive, and the following Thursday, the basement ceiling will finally be installed. Once the ceiling is in place, the insulation will be extended upwards and the excavation pit will be fully backfilled... and then the ground floor will finally begin.

The waterproofing effort is incredible; I haven’t seen anything like it before. Was it very expensive? There must have been a lot of materials and labor involved.

I think I need to buy a 7.5-ton truck, otherwise the carport will look too big :-p

Yes, it wasn’t exactly cheap. Insulation, waterproofing, and drainage probably cost around 23,000 for the basement, plus the additional cost for the water-resistant concrete.
If that means I have peace of mind for the next 50 years, it’s worth it to me.
