Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

We are the only ones here with S-shaped slats among some newer houses. Everyone else chose Z-shaped slats. But as the design and cozy manager (a title kindly given to me by my husband), I decided on the more attractive S-shaped slats, since the Z-shaped ones seem too technical to me.

Today, my husband is very happy because the Z-shaped slats would make it too dark for our taste. Our primary goal is to achieve privacy and sun protection in the summer. The S-shaped slats, in our opinion, provide enough darkness!

But of course, it's largely a matter of personal preference!
That’s exactly why I find the blinds trend questionable—they’re always down when you look around, and inside it feels like a prison.

That’s why we only have them in the bedroom.

With roller shutters, you end up sitting in the dark all summer, but without them, it gets too hot. You just have to choose the lesser of two evils.

Inside, it definitely doesn’t feel like a prison when you choose the right profile.

No prison atmosphere. Large window units with slats slightly tilted open. Bright, you can easily look outside and there’s no heat buildup in the room. I’m very glad I took a break here during the construction phase.
So-called T-slats. Better than round ones and not as unattractive as Z-slats. They don’t make the room completely dark, though nobody here really needs that.

Roller shutters feel like a prison. They cause total heat buildup.

I hope we’ll get the venetian blinds soon – they’ve been ordered for quite a while. Without them, the house heats up a lot in the sun, and the poor guys have to work sweating – I really wish they had shading.

Shutters only make a room dark if you close them all the way without thinking. In our home, no room is ever so dark that you need artificial lighting or feel like you are in a prison.
