The raised bed is made of Corten steel! Negative: expensive, positive: no slugs on the leaf lettuce Ah, that’s why that color/material is usedWe are the only ones here among some newer houses using S-shaped slats. Everyone else chose Z-shaped slats. But I, as the design and cozy manager (a title my husband kindly gave me), decided on the more attractive S-shaped slats because Z-shaped slats seem too technical to me.
Today, my husband is very happy because the Z-shaped slats would make it too dark for our taste. Our main goal is to achieve privacy and sun shading in the summer. In our opinion, the S-shaped slats are dark enough!
But of course, this is largely a matter of personal preference!

Phew, Corten steel—yes, expensive. We’re also considering it, but because of the price, we’re leaning towards raw steel. However, we’re not sure how it performs or if the rust that forms stains a lot when you lean against it (I lean on my current raised bed a lot, but that one is made of masonry).
No snails? That would definitely be an argument in its favor...
Did you have the bed custom-made, or is there a place where you can get something like this off the shelf?
Yes, please share pictures!!!

Except in the bedroom and the third room, we have specially installed slats that block the sun from the outside but reflect light inside, so it stays bright indoors even with the blinds fully lowered. Is this the S-slat? We saw them in action and were already impressed by how bright it still remains.
I also lean a lot against the planter bed. It’s CRUMBLING a bit, but that doesn’t bother me!
It was like with the furniture: I designed how I wanted it, my husband engineered it, and a friend who specializes in steel built it.
But despite having good connections, the price was steep—steel prices are truly outrageous. In front of the house, we have a planter bed made of Corten steel; I thought it was going to ruin us, and it’s only 40 cm (16 inches) wide for grasses. But once you get over that…
