Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

The roof over the dormers appears to be extremely flat. With angles below 10 degrees, the tiles face technical challenges regarding wind loads and water drainage. You may have ended up with a metal roof because of this.

Yes, it is very flat. I also read about the wind load issue, but what do you think about the concerns regarding noise during rain?

It will be louder than a tile roof but not problematic. The sound of rain hitting the roof is not like airplane noise; it’s quite a natural sound. We can easily tolerate it as long as we don’t focus too much on it.

Uh, I also find the downpipes really disruptive to the overall look; I would have invested in alternatives for that...

seat88, nice house. Downspouts look completely fine. Don’t get discouraged.
Downspouts must be on the outside; anything else is a potential source of future problems. An external clogged downspout is immediately noticeable and relatively easy to dismantle and clean. Inside downspouts are exactly the opposite.

Imagine the downspouts with climbing plants growing on them. It creates a pergola-like feel and the appearance fits well.

That is basically true. In my parents' house, the problem never occurred in 49 years. However, we still chose external gutters and downspouts because we want to avoid the risk of stagnant water and leaks in the timber house.

So, in the late 1960s, this style was popular with some architects, and the district is full of houses with internal gutters. Whenever there is a lot of surrounding tree cover, it often leads to serious clogging issues. This results in damp walls and significant structural damage because the problem was ignored or went unnoticed for too long. This is especially true when the houses are rented out. K.
