Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

A gravel driveway is a nice feature and, in my opinion, very durable.

Have you ever seen a lawn stone surface that was actually green? In my opinion, it’s just an illusion.
There is a new development area where builders were encouraged to use it, but all declined. It has been installed in public spaces, and as expected, dirt accumulates there, but definitely no grass.

I’m also using KANN paving stones.

Just thinking about ordering 270 sqm (2906 sq ft) of Multitec and 45 sqm (484 sq ft) of terrace pavers makes me feel sick already. Luckily, I’m getting almost a 40% discount on that stuff.

Work inside the house is also progressing. The screed is currently drying out.

I borrowed a mini excavator and dug the trench for the drinking water pipe as well as the trenches for the rainwater drainage.

Today, the ventilation system was installed inside the house. Wow, it’s a huge unit.

On the side, we primed the garage today. On Friday, I plan to paint the interior.

Good thing the neighbor had a few semi-slick tires left over. That way, my dad didn’t have to climb the ladder all the time.

True, if it is flat.

Of course. They were plastic systems. As long as the area isn’t subjected to constant sharp turning and heavy maneuvering, the vegetation will grow fine.
Our access path is more like a farm track than a road or forecourt, and in a rural location like this, a formal driveway would be completely out of place. It’s fine if there’s sometimes some dirt on it. So what.

Permeable “eco” paving ranks very high on my top 5 list of biggest marketing gimmicks

Anyone who wants to avoid discharging surface water for whatever reason, at least partially, must ensure drainage on their own property.

So far, our paving has not been slippery,
and we don’t receive any discount, for example, since the paving itself is not the issue; a minimum joint width of 3cm (1.2 inches) is required to qualify for a discount.

Of course, eco-paving cannot absorb heavy rain completely – but what I have noticed: after rainfall, our paving stones dry significantly faster than those of our neighbors.

While we’re on the topic: partial infiltration on our property requires approval from the water authority; it is not even allowed to place a rain barrel under the roof gutter downspout INSTEAD of discharging it. They probably know that the plots in the residential areas are not large enough to fully infiltrate the water and therefore prohibit it outright.

To keep this relevant, here is another photo of the mentioned paving

Demolition is progressing! Since Tuesday, all above-ground structures have been demolished. Yesterday, the team started actively breaking up the large debris. Let’s see how it looks when I drive by again this evening. The plan was to have most of the demolition completed before Easter and to begin excavation immediately after Easter.
