Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Really? That’s going to be a flood barrier?

Sure. The site slopes downward. Water comes from above, and we’ll stop it there. Just compact the ground a bit more, put stones on top, and our embankment is ready. The neighbors on the right have one too, which connects to ours now. The one on the left is trying a ditch, but he’ll soon realize that won’t work. He’ll build an embankment soon as well, I bet. Besides, we won’t need fences then. Karsten

I can imagine it’s quite funny if everyone has a levee for the water to run along and the last one just has a ditch. That person is probably in for a hard time when it rains.

His trench is always overflowing... In his mind, he is already building a dike.
By the way, we never use soakaways or infiltration pits here; instead, we connect all drainage channels to the stormwater sewer system. It then flows downhill and straight into the harbor. It can’t cause any damage there, it almost never overflows. Only during a northeast storm.

Wooden houses all the way! We're not living in the Stone Age after all.
