Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Nice house, almost like ours from the outside.

Why would someone voluntarily install drywall partitions in a brick house?

That's exactly what I was wondering too XD

The reasons can vary:

- Price
- Flexibility regarding layout and electrical work
- Owner participation
- Time

Soundproofing
When done properly, it can even be better (at least compared to walls made of red bricks).

We paid 9.5k for the basement and upper floor stairs. Oak would have been more expensive. But I have to say we prefer beech anyway, so that worked to our advantage. The risers are also solid beech, painted white. The treads are beech parquet, glued and oiled.

Can you tell me approximately how much the railing alone costs? Is your price including the wooden steps? I’m currently deciding whether to go with a wooden railing or have it built as a masonry one...

The main reason was sound insulation. A 12.5cm (5 inch) drywall partition—insulated and double-layered on both sides—performs better than a 17.5cm (7 inch) Poroton block, and it also saves space. We didn’t want to use sand-lime bricks, even though they would probably have been the best choice for soundproofing.
