Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

So handrails are not necessarily mandatory (according to DIN and such)?
Then you can also change the handrail (move it from one side to the other) 😎

Inside single-family houses, I believe the answer is no.
As an example, the building code of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), which @rick2018 already mentioned:

§ 34 Building Code NRW 2018 – Stairs
(1) Every floor above ground level and any usable attic space of a building must be accessible by at least one staircase (required staircase). Instead of required staircases, ramps with a gentle slope are permitted.
(2) Retractable stairs and escalators are not allowed as required staircases. In buildings of building classes 1 and 2, retractable stairs and ladders are permitted as access to an attic without living space.
(3) Required staircases must continuously connect all accessible floors. They must be directly connected to the stairs leading to the attic. This does not apply to stairs
  • 1.
  • in buildings of building classes 1 to 3 and
  • 2.
  • according to § 35 paragraph 1 sentence 3 number 2.

(4) The load-bearing parts of required staircases must
  • 1.
  • in buildings of building class 5 be fire-resistant and made of non-combustible materials,
  • 2.
  • in buildings of building class 4 be made of non-combustible materials, and
  • 3.
  • in buildings of building class 3 be made of non-combustible materials or be fire-resistant

The load-bearing parts of exterior stairs according to § 35 paragraph 1 sentence 3 number 3 for buildings of building classes 3 to 5 must be made of non-combustible materials.
(5) The usable width of stair flights and landings of required staircases must be sufficient for the expected maximum traffic. Deviating from sentence 1, the retrofitting of stair lifts may be allowed if
the guide system of the stair lift is at most 0.20 m (8 inches) wide and 0.50 m (20 inches) high, measured from the lower limit of the stair’s clearance envelope,
a continuous remaining clear stair width of at least 0.60 m (24 inches) remains when the lift is not in use, and
the unused lift is positioned in a parking spot that does not restrict the stair width beyond what is permissible according to number 1.
(6) Stairs must have a fixed and secure-to-grip handrail. Handrails on both sides and intermediate handrails must be installed where traffic safety requires them.
(7) A stair must not begin immediately behind a door that opens toward the stair. An adequate landing between the stair and the door must be provided, with a depth at least equal to the door width.
(8) Paragraphs 3 to 6 do not apply to stairs inside residential units.

A constant tug of war of forces ...

But you didn’t take any advice either – so don’t complain.

A spontaneous moment just now – despite two lazy adult residents, bench free 😀

Hallway at the entrance: dark green door with square windows, coat rack, bench, baskets, and wall art.

Finally some pictures again, thank you.
I wasn’t sure in the last few pages if I had really ended up in the "House Pictures Thread" section ;-)

Just a spontaneous situation moments ago – despite two lazy adult residents, the couch is free 😀

Complain? Me? No way! 😀

Spontaneous situation: where there’s a will, there’s an (almost) free chair …

Open wardrobe with coats and jackets; in front a white chair with a scarf, shoes next to it.

What kind of front door is that?

You also have to keep in mind that the chair is located at a side entrance, specifically in the basement level near the garages.

The main entrance looks a bit different (but almost only guests enter there, since we usually come through the garages):

Bright hallway with wooden door, glass panel with heart, white chest of drawers, dark carpet.

On Friday, I ordered a new front door. I hope it will be installed by the end of March 😀 In terms of design, it will be like yours, with three glass panels (about 40cm x 40cm (16 inches x 16 inches)) matching the interior doors in white.

We are still looking for wall decorations ...
