Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Mellina, absolutely stunning!

You’ve been living there for a while now. Do you have any initial experiences? Is there anything that turned out differently than expected? Better or worse? Anything you would have preferred to be done differently? Or the other way around: something you had to do out of necessity, but it turned out even better than you ever imagined!
I always find that interesting.

@kati1337: I had the same issue in my kids’ bathroom and was able to remove it really well using Mellerud’s cement residue remover. There are definitely similar products from other manufacturers too! It worked really well, just make sure to wear gloves while applying it.

@Mellina: Very nice house and especially in a great location!

@rick2018: The same applies to your project! Both are impressive projects, and even if I don’t like every detail, that’s just a matter of personal taste.

@Climbee Hmm, good question, had to think about it for a bit... We’ve been in the house for three months now and I still get that vacation feeling every day 😎 (well, except for the housework and tidying up, plus the occasional tradespeople, etc.)

What I would definitely do again are tiles throughout the entire living area. For us, it was a practical decision—I would much rather have had hardwood flooring, but because of the dog and kids, I decided against it. We’ve already had water damage, the dog threw up during the night, and to top it off, my husband dropped a bottle of red wine 😱. Plus, thanks to the underfloor heating, it’s pleasantly warm, so that was the right choice.

I was a bit unsure about the black walls at first—I couldn’t really imagine it—but I think it’s great. Thanks to the lighting design, it feels really cozy in the evening; with white walls, it probably would have felt like a doctor’s office during the day.

The smart home setup also seemed a bit doubtful at first, but now I’m glad I have it, and the possibilities are far from fully explored—I’m learning every day (also thanks to this forum).

I haven’t really found anything negative yet, except that the pool is a bit small (we have the standard size, about 7m by 2.5m (23 ft by 8 ft) or so). I wouldn’t have gone as big as @rick2018, but 2 or 3 meters (6.5 or 10 feet) longer would have been nice. Although that’s really just complaining at a high level; after all, we’re only two minutes away from the lake 😳.

@Mellina Very nice, especially since the view, which you can’t actually see there, is impressive. But do you actually have a properly usable garden? The slope is quite steep...

What, all in one day?!

Well, for me, terraces also count as part of the garden... There’s a lounge area, a barbecue corner, sun loungers, some nice plant pots, and so on. We’re also planning a lawn on the lowest level, between the pool deck and the property boundary, with some pretty shrubs, a fence of course, a few illuminated trees, and on the north side of the house near the entrance, I’d like to have a wildflower meadow.

However, this will probably be a project for next year, for now I need to finish the interior of the house first.

It could have been worse the other way around, so I guess it’s still a lucky escape….. 😀
