Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Thank you @Nordlys, you are expressing what hopefully many are thinking.
Sometimes I also get shaken when I read some comments here.
Sometimes silence is golden...

What I find lacking here and in the terrace showcase topic is politeness. These topics are explicitly not requests for evaluation; people are proudly showing what they have worked for, created, and saved up.

I agree with you that stairs are a matter of personal taste, but in many other posts, including the terrace flooring, there are technical mistakes—please distinguish between these and avoid immediately labeling someone.

Thanks @Nordlys!
You don’t have to stay completely silent, but polite behavior and respect for other people’s tastes are important.
Comments like “I prefer lighter wood” or “I like concrete stairs better” are sufficient.

I find comments important. They can reveal why someone specifically chose the seemingly outdated, unusual, or even impractical option. There might be aspects that you haven't considered yourself. In my opinion, that adds value.
However, the tone makes all the difference.

Pure flattery is pointless. If someone only wants praise, they should go to Instagram, as someone already mentioned. This is not meant to become Liesels Dia Club either.

Pointing out technical or workmanship errors is very important, as they can still be corrected or future homeowners will know what to watch out for. However, this should always be done in the right tone. For example: "The electrical cables were installed incorrectly. Ideally, they should not cross each other." and not "Who was the idiot that did this?" That simply doesn’t help.

This rosy, fluffy world doesn’t exist—being polite is a must, but you have to be able to take criticism. In this case, it also affects someone who has quite a big mouth themselves and I believe can handle criticism well because of that.

I’m also sure there are always reasons. Whether it’s simply the budget in this case or the floor plan doesn’t allow for a better solution, etc.
