Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

More photos and colors... our house still has autumn foliage for now, but in a few years it will have turned gray.

I really like how you have adapted your house to the surroundings. Even though it has a different style, it does not look out of place compared to the other houses.

Thank you very much, integrating the house into the natural surroundings was one of our goals. When it turns gray, it will fit even better. The house generates more electricity than it needs through photovoltaic panels and is heated with wood from the forest. The forest grows back more than enough to supply the house’s needs.

The floor is installed in the first room.

Interior under construction: long wooden planks are laid on the floor; outside, a yellow excavator with a lake view.

The ground level is a special milestone! Beautiful view. Will it remain unobstructed?

... Should the joints in the flooring be aligned with the direction of the light? Or is this mostly a matter of personal preference?

Is this the right way to do it? In the living area, we installed the joints aligned with the light, while in another room with the same parquet flooring, we laid it in the opposite direction (you cannot visually connect the two rooms—it is never noticeable).
The parquet looks completely different depending on the installation direction—the one in the living area appears smoother, while the brushed texture stands out much more in the other room (which I actually prefer).
So, in my opinion, it’s also a matter of personal taste. But most of the time, it is done according to the direction of the natural light.
