I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

By the way, this morning we found the second dead great spotted woodpecker on the terrace... within 2 days!! I can only imagine that they are flying into the terrace windows (our terrace is covered). I’m just surprised... twice the same bird species! Terrible... I need to do something about it... still thinking it over... 😳
My honeysuckle is so full of aphids that I don’t know if it will even bloom this year...
It’s planted in a very exposed spot on an archway, with full sun and windy conditions. It stayed green for a long time but didn’t survive the frost. Okay, it was only planted late last summer, so maybe it just needs the usual 2-3 years to settle in and thrive...

Off topic: Is there a reason why you were able to skip the drainage layer and splash protection around the house, or is this just the case in this photo because the terrace appears to be under construction here? Thanks. 🙂Pinkiponk schrieb:

Thanks. 🙂In many of your exterior wall photos, you can see the splash protection…. It’s usually omitted for terraces, and – also note – the large overhang: after all, you don’t put on a rain jacket inside the house when it starts raining. 😉Are you all having the same problems with aphids?
All the purple coneflowers still don’t have a single bud, and the oregano is the same. Instead, there are completely stunted leaves on the new growth, and when you pull the leaves apart a little, you can see they are covered with aphids. One of the serviceberries has powdery mildew again.
And our Japanese maple (almost 3 meters (10 feet) tall now) is currently losing a large branch to some kind of fungus. Hopefully it’s not wilt disease.
On the other hand, a columnar amber tree that was planted last year has already grown 15 cm (6 inches) of shoots, and a black ironwood tree is developing so nicely that it almost makes you want another one...
The chamomile ‘Hollandaise’ is about to bloom, with so many buds, and the masterwort plants are absolutely stunning this year too!
Does anyone here actually use one of those electric weed burners? I’m usually the type who finds pulling weeds very meditative, but in some places (where I’ve converted lawn into beds), pulling doesn’t really work, and the grass just takes over again. I’m seriously considering getting one of those weed burners...
