Hello everyone,

We will soon decide how to build our terrace and driveway.

We have no ideas yet and are a bit in the dark.

Especially regarding the terrace... what would be the best option? (Costs?, Maintenance?, Durability?)

Best regards, Barossi

We faced the same issue and have now decided on clinker pavers.

The options we considered were:
  • Clinker pavers (+ relatively affordable; 30 €/sqm (approx. $32/sq ft), + very durable, - many joints).
  • Ceramic composite (+ few joints, - significantly more expensive; 60-80 €/sqm (approx. $64-85/sq ft))
  • Concrete pavers (+ cheap 15-25 €/sqm (approx. $16-27/sq ft), - less colorfast, - many joints)
  • Natural stone puzzle (+ interesting look, durable, - high installation effort)
  • Natural stone (+ durable, - moderately more expensive; 40-50 €/sqm (approx. $43-54/sq ft))
  • Wood (+ has its charm, - weather-sensitive)
This is not a scientific study claiming universal validity. Nothing has been laid yet, unfortunately — the landscaping contractor postponed by a week — hopefully they will start next week.

In this category, you’ll also find some discussions and experience reports. Take a look at "What does the garden cost" and "Experiences with stones and slabs from Rinn" – Rinn is top quality, or something like that. Quite a bit has already been discussed there.

Greetings from Lille, I’m off to cheer for our national team now.

Hello,

thanks very much for the great overview!

I also really like the clinker brick pavers laid vertically. How are the height differences due to the relatively small individual surfaces? Do chairs and tables wobble?

Best regards, Barossi

I hope the landscaping contractor will do a good job.

Otherwise, we’ll just have to live with it – we’ll see. We have chosen some very nice benches (made from single tree trunks from the forest) and a matching table.

Have you also commissioned the terrace and driveway? Please share some pictures once everything is finished, or even better, before and after.
