I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

We currently have a problem with our lawn: along the curbstones, it is practically burning. I know it is hot outside and yes, I do water it, but the edges still get damaged.

I suspect that the grass will recover after the heat, but is there a way to prevent this in advance?

We have installed 30cm (12 inch) deep curbs, and the wedge is about 20cm (8 inches) below the edge, so there should be enough soil for the grass. The neighbor suggested that the curbstones should be separated from the grass by a dimpled membrane.

@tomtom79
Do you have an automatic irrigation system, or how do you water it?
Areas near slabs and curbs are always critical. Irrigation is usually weaker at the edges. In the recent weather, you need about 30 liters per m² (3.2 gallons per sq ft) per week. Near the curb, it's usually about twice that amount.
It's best to water early in the morning before sunrise.
What surprises me is that you have a strip like that. Directly next to the curb, it actually looks better. Is there an overhang or something similar above that causes water to drip down there?

@Winniefred With proper watering, the lawn looks great even in this heat. Probably too little and/or incorrect irrigation.
But I can understand anyone who doesn’t want to water. It only makes sense in areas where water is not scarce and can, for example, be supplied by rainwater.

Same here, or just a strip between lush green areas.

I then tried watering twice. The green got greener, the brown got browner.
A few streets away, there is an outdoor area with an irrigation system, and recently the lawn there also suffered in some spots.

I have to say, as nice as the stone walls look, they still radiate heat around 4 o’clock.

One good thing about the heat between 5 and 6 in the morning is that you meet all the neighbors at the village well.

@rick2018 by hand and with a sprinkler. In my opinion, it is definitely sufficient, although less than last year when starting again, but every other evening. The green edge is just a coincidence; I didn’t even notice it much due to my green color deficiency. And no, there is no roof leaking. I will water the edges more thoroughly and suspect that it is simply the darker deeper borders.

No, believe me Rick, our lawn is simply burnt, it’s not dried out. Even the hazelnut has burnt leaves. We have a part of the garden that is exposed to relentless full sun from morning until evening. Exactly where the lawn has at least some shade, it looks good. It’s the heat, not the watering.

Otherwise, everything is going well in the garden. Everything is green and blooming (because I water it; without watering, probably half of it would already be dead, the drought here is severe). Some plants are struggling with the heat, such as the container vegetables in the courtyard or the hydrangeas in the front garden. Overall, though, things are really good at the moment.
