I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

We are currently saving up for a riding lawn mower.

Maybe you also have a neighbor with animals? I can recommend sheep. A small fence and suddenly everything is neatly trimmed.

We have a small garden pond AND a young daughter. Therefore, we are now looking for a fence to secure it.

Hm, a toddler-proof fence is at least 80cm (31.5 inches) high and should have as few footholds as possible to prevent climbing.
I would probably cover a small pond—using a grid with openings small enough so that a face cannot fit through. And of course, positioned slightly above the water level.

We actually don’t want to cover this topic again, as we are familiar with the points mentioned and the Melabel Teichzaun Light would meet those requirements. We also really like that product and just want to check if anyone might have an alternative. At 50€ per linear meter in the basic version, it’s not exactly cheap (but from our impression, it is definitely "worth the price").

We have fenced the garden with double wire mesh panels, but that is a) less flexible and b) relatively easy to climb over.

Young children should never be left alone near a pond. Even toddlers can figure out ways to get over the fence, for example by bringing a bucket or chair and climbing over. My little daughter was able to pull herself up very early and climb over, which even surprised her older brother. So simply putting a fence around the pond and leaving children unattended is not a safe solution. It is better to install a grate or mesh over the pond surface until the children can swim properly.

Best regards,
Sabine

It is clear that they cannot be left alone and unsupervised in the garden. Besides child safety, the fence should also keep our two dogs out of the pond. They like to go in there during the summer, and the grid could potentially be a hazard in that case. For now, the little one will not be alone in the garden anyway!

But maybe we will take another look at grids, and the dogs will also learn not to step on them.

Maybe the gardening experts can help me... After 2.5 weeks of vacation, the flower bed was completely overgrown with weeds, including several of the plants shown in the picture. When they were small, I thought the leaf shape resembled hollyhocks (I have a few of those growing about 15m (50 feet) away). But the bigger these plants get, the less I believe it.
So, hollyhocks or can these be removed?
