I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

@bortel do you also have a robotic mower? Daily mowing is ideal. This makes the lawn denser, meaning it grows wider instead of taller. This effect varies depending on the grass species. Occasionally aerating or scarifying helps to lift the blades. Then mow again.

Yes, there is one running on every area. They run every day and return to the charging station only through sensor control... or in the evening based on a timer setting.
The lower lawn area from last year still looks quite good, but the upper one is currently a disaster... last year it looked so nice.

The entire lawn is covered with it! Over time, it spreads out in circular patches. The landscaper says this is completely normal and that it actually strengthens the lawn. He can fool someone else! 😡

I’ve now mowed it down to 1cm (0.4 inches) using a mower with a catcher to prevent the seeds from spreading onto the grass. I’m curious if that will help. According to the internet, this pesky grass seems to start seeding again immediately...

Is that irony?
I think the lawn looks really beautiful and lush.

No, this is not irony. Poa annua displaces the "regular" grass and spreads aggressively. Since it completely dries out during the slightest dry period, you then get the typical brown patches in the lawn. The robotic lawn mower spreads the seeds, which then effectively "infest" the lawn.

I’m not sure if you can confront the landscaper about this. In my opinion, it’s a defect. Of course, the seeds can spread through the air, but our neighbors don’t have this “infestation.”
