Take a look at our first lawn here... we seeded it about a week and a half ago.
Do you think it looks okay and will fill in, or should I reseed the bare spots? Or would it be better to wait another week first?

I would definitely start by watering thoroughly, especially now that it's so extremely hot.
Overseeding never hurts.

I would wait and see. Grass has a growth period of about 6 weeks, as far as I know. You can always overseed later.

First, make sure you get it through the hot days; honestly, I think your chances are relatively low. Reseeding should be done later.

Common lawn seed mixtures contain a lot of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), which typically germinates after about 1 week. I suspect the large bare spots will remain bare.

More important than overseeding is to find out why it is so patchy. Uneven watering? Poor soil?

I would check and possibly address this before overseeding.
