I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

We are currently watering it every evening and occasionally in the mornings. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this, but so far the most common advice we received was to water in the evenings.
I’m also wondering why it grows unevenly, since we sowed the seeds by hand and are watering regularly—uneven sowing and watering could be possibilities. 🤨 I believe the soil is denser in some spots than in others. In the areas that look bare, there isn’t nothing growing, just individual shoots. Where it’s bushier, there is obviously more.
I do believe we will get it through the hot days. The hottest day for us was yesterday; it’s already cooler again, and a little rain is forecast for the next few days. 😎

Common lawn seed mixes contain a lot of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), which germinates in about 1 week. I suspect the large patches will remain bare. Yes, that is included. It contains German ryegrass, creeping red fescue, and meadow fescue. It wasn’t the cheapest mix, probably mid-range; we paid around 60€ for 10kg (22 lbs).
Always keep newly sown grass moist! Currently, this means watering as often as every hour in the afternoons.
The mixture sounds quite classic, but the inclusion of red fescue gives it a higher quality. However, perennial ryegrass simply grows the fastest and can start to overshadow the other varieties after about two weeks.

Watering in the morning is actually better because the lawn is not heated yet and gets its drinking power for the hot day.
But watering so little at the moment is really quite wrong. Alright, then we will increase that a bit. Apparently, the idea that you shouldn’t water during sunny conditions is just a myth (although we have been persistently told this from many sources).
