I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

My mother calls columbines weeds.
They grow all the time and everywhere.

@Climbee
Which type of stone did you use for the masonry?
We also have a small project coming up in our garden. With the size we want, cutting will be unavoidable. Aerated concrete would be very DIY-friendly because it’s easy to work with. However, it doesn’t handle moisture well and would need to be fully coated with slurry or plastered on all sides. I would prefer calcium silicate bricks, but that means using a large angle grinder and dealing with a lot of dust.

and everyone else....

When is the best time of year to plant peonies?
Spring or autumn?

And when are they usually available at garden centers?
I’ve never actually seen them for sale on purpose......

We also have plenty of columbines on the earthen embankment, both inside and on the street side:

Bed with green plants and pink flowers along the sidewalk at the roadside, cloudy sky.

The potatoes are already well developed thanks to pre-sprouting, even though I planted them late. The strawberries are spectacular this year – I was able to harvest the first handful today. My only problem is slugs in the greenhouse; I collected about 20 again today and fed them to the neighbor’s chickens.

So far, everything is thriving – tomatoes and chili peppers are growing well, the melon pear from last year is sprouting vigorously again, the sweet corn is growing strongly, and the Zipperle trees are producing a good yield. The quince, still quite young, is also doing well. The kiwis are sprouting wildly now in their second year. Only the fig tree has died 🙁 but two new ones are coming. I don’t want to give up on figs.

...and I always enjoy my little helper that I made in spring: the seed packet organizer! In the past few years, I never managed to reseed at the right time or at all. Every spring, I planned all kinds of great things, but by August at the latest, I’d give up when looking at the seed packet shelf. Something had to bring order to it. Now I can fill it up in spring and see what still needs or can be sown later. Even small “always-to-reseed” things like radishes and lettuce have a handy place by the door to the garden.

Slim, striped monthly organizer with compartments March–September on the wall next to the door.

(The photo was taken a few months ago, so the organizer is still empty and the garden bare...)
