I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

At the back, some columbines have crept in and disrupted my planting design a bit:

Garden with wooden wall, purple aquilegia flowers, and green foliage along stone path.

Garden bed next to wooden house with blooming flowers, stone path, patio, and woodpile in the background.

They have grown quite large and really dominate the bed. But who could be upset with such delicate beauties?

This one in particular looks like Delftware:

A light blue, multilayered flower with visible stamens, green leaves in the background.

Once they have finished blooming, I will cut them back drastically so that the other plants originally planned for this space can have the room intended for them.

In addition, the foliage of the early bloomers is still there because they were so late coming. Right now, the bed is quite crowded, and my carefully planned blooming schedule has been somewhat disrupted by the columbines and the cold spring...

@Climbee
What type of block did you use for building the outside of the counter? Or is it cast concrete?
Climbee14 Jun 2021 17:10
Counter? Do you mean the shelf next to the bread oven?

It is simply built with masonry, with lintels above and a granite slab on top.

Here is a larger view:

The plaster still needs to be finished nicely and it has not been painted yet.

Everything is slowly blooming here.
Early bloomers are coming a bit late, the rest are more or less on schedule. However, my columbines are pretty much done.

Peonies have been blooming for a few days. They don’t last long. I think it’s almost too warm for them.

I like your columbine.

In my prairie garden, St. John’s wort has spread extensively.

The strawberries are so-so.
The potatoes are growing like crazy.
I have aphids by the thousands.
Hopefully, the ladybug larvae will arrive soon.

My potatoes are also sprouting foliage. I used pesticide to get rid of the aphids on the roses, but I don’t do that with vegetables. So the dill is surviving this year :-(

The columbines appeared on their own. Our gardener says they will die back if they don’t have enough space. I rather get the impression that they definitely fight for their place...
