I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Yes, there have been praying mantises in Berlin and Brandenburg for many years. We also had 8 egg cases on the property and I was able to observe the hatching twice.

Our plot is 1055 sqm (11,357 sq ft); we were very lucky back then to also be able to purchase the adjacent forest area.

Ok, so similar to Steffi’s case, but then I really have trouble with the perspective. It always looks so huge in your photos. Not that I’m saying 1000 m² (10,764 sq ft) is small. That’s twice the size of what we have, but in the pictures it looks like ten times as much.

Some parts were taken with a wide-angle lens to capture everything I wanted 🙂. But yes, it does look huge. Our neighbors at the same elevation also have no fences, which naturally makes it look different as well.

Very nice at your place, and with all the animals and insects too – simply great. 🙂

Thank you very much!
With a natural garden—that is, not too tidied up and with many native plants (our animals depend on them)—this works quite reliably. I truly enjoy being able to go out into the garden every day 🙂

We are currently trying to redesign our garden to be as natural as possible. We already have a few "wild corners," insect hotels, and flowering strips with insect-friendly seed mixes. Since then, we have seen some hedgehogs and, of course, many insects, though not as diverse as in your case. However, we have much less space and are located right in the middle of town. We also have a few plants that are less beneficial, which were already there or that we acquired before gaining new insights and do not want or are unable to remove. Still, we notice a clear change, and our "weed lawn" copes with the dryness much better than the original "perfect" lawn did. 🙂
