I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Finally, it’s time for me to join in here. At the moment, the garden still looks more like a construction site, and it will take at least two or three more weeks before I can show any fresh plantings, but I can already show off our custom-made corten steel raised bed, designed by us:

Several large gray metal containers are placed outdoors next to stacks of wooden planks.

Several gray metal boxes stand outdoors next to stacked wood on pallets.

It doesn’t look like classic corten yet, as it will be treated accordingly on site, but I’m really looking forward to it. Once it’s installed, my husband will build a cold frame lid for the top (highest) bed so I can start very early next year. This year, it will only be from late May/early June.
It will be placed right in front of our balcony, where there are still L-shaped stones and excavated soil stored now:

Construction site in front of the house with wood cladding, gravel piles, concrete blocks, and construction machinery.

I brought a few plants from our old garden or rescued them from the excavator, and unfortunately had to buy a few already (our garden landscaper complains that this is his favorite part of the work, and I already have a whole batch of plants he has to fit in *g*). Some are waiting behind my mother’s house for their new places:

Garden terrace with planting containers on a table and watering cans.

The rest are on the balcony:

Terrace area with many potted plants in front of a wooden facade and glass front.

Now I can hardly wait for the dirt pit that has opened up around the house to finally turn into our green oasis.

The raised garden bed is nice. It’s a refreshing change from the standard rectangular shape. How heavy is it?
Right now, I’m still a bit overwhelmed with the garden. I don’t know much about plants and have to look everything up. I’m glad the previous owner of the plot had already planted grass before selling it. At least everything is green except for the area where we spread the excavated soil.
For now, we’re focusing on that soil-filled area so we don’t have to tackle the whole garden at once. Lately, the only things I’ve been reading are gardening magazines and books.

And then you realize the garden is too small.

Set a general direction and then proceed step by step. One thing at a time.

Well, having a garden that's too small doesn't happen so easily for us. We have a 1600 sqm (approximately 0.4 acres) plot of land. So I could buy plants like crazy, but I hold back because I want everything to fit together and complement each other. It also has to serve a purpose. So far, we've only planted plants that are good for insects or birds. And we have enough "wild" corners too. I wouldn’t have thought I would enjoy tinkering in the garden and learning about plants so much.
Here’s a recent photo taken from our living room window:

The woodpile actually belongs to the neighbor. The property boundary is back there by the two slopes and to the right of the garden shed.

The boundary explains why the wood is not in front of the cabin but several meters away.

Sort of. The neighbor’s garden shed is roughly the same distance to the left outside the image as ours. I think he placed it further back because the ground there is relatively level again. The plots slope downward toward the center.
