I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

You will regret planting bamboo in 5-6 years, speaking from experience unfortunately. It grows everywhere and can even penetrate asphalt and paving; your neighbor will soon have complaints too.If you’re speaking from experience, which variety did you plant?
I’ve done some research on this and you really need to be careful about the type you choose. With clumping varieties, there shouldn’t be any problems with underground spreading.
But if you use a running variety without a rhizome barrier, it’s obvious that it will turn into a mess.
My parents had bamboo about 20 years ago that got completely out of control. In the end, only an excavator could deal with it.

In the garden of my previous home, I had a Fargesia bamboo for 18 years. Over the years it grew bigger and stronger, but it never spread to other parts of the garden.matte1987 schrieb:

Of course, Fargesia also grows from the base. The rhizomes don't spread more than a meter or two, but they do form clumps. And clumps expand laterally as well. I’m already pruning the sides of my solitary Fargesia plants.
By the way, it requires a lot of water. If it doesn’t get enough, it loses its leaves. This isn’t always obvious on the plant itself, but the debris ends up scattered all over the garden, making it look untidy.
I posted a photo of one of my bamboo plants this summer—maybe try searching for it?!

Here is the internal link, for which actually fewer words would suffice.Yeah, I’ve noticed that too – I have one in front of the terrace, on the full south side, with lots of sun and wind. It doesn’t like it at all.
The neighbors have some in front of the house, on the north side; they look okay but could use more water.
Well, I was misinformed beforehand. I’m still not sure if ours will stay where it is.
