Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

IKEA-Experte20 May 2016 18:02To allow the door to open fully, it must extend 2.5 cm (1 inch) at the top so that it does not hit the base of the appliance at the bottom before opening completely (there may be some tolerance here, but no one has measured it so far).
The minimum height of the appliance is 86.5 cm (34 inches). With the 2.5 cm (1 inch) overhang, the total height becomes 89 cm (35 inches) (again, some tolerances might apply, but are unknown).
With an 8 cm (3 inches) base, Metod offers a niche height of 88 cm (35 inches), so 1 cm (0.4 inches) is still missing. This inevitably leads to the required minimum base height of 9 cm (4 inches).
As mentioned before, by making full use of all tolerances, the base height might be less than 9 cm (4 inches), but only possibly.

IKEA-Experte20 May 2016 18:13No, that option is not available.
We are getting a new IKEA kitchen, and after having read beforehand that IKEA dishwashers did not perform well in tests, we decided not to buy an IKEA appliance.
Not realizing that since the switch to METOD—also known as IKEA Methode—it’s almost forced upon you to buy a device from IKEA if you want it fully integrated, meaning completely hidden and covered with the same front panel (which is what almost everyone wants).
After numerous visits to our two local IKEA kitchen departments, always hoping to find an employee who could explain things more clearly and understand our request, and after also visiting several kitchen studios without success, we are frustrated with the installation of the front panel using what was called a “sliding hinge” in one IKEA store or a “glide hinge” in another. Before METOD, it was apparently possible to buy this hinge as a standard part, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case!
We have now managed, through some indirect ways, to get the IKEA glide hinge Behjälplig (or something similar), but the question remains whether we can use this with a standard non-IKEA dishwasher or if it has to be an XXL dishwasher.
There are so many comments saying it’s possible without an IKEA dishwasher, but because of all the information, I’m totally overwhelmed.
We want a fully integrated appliance 60 cm (24 inches) wide, with a cutlery drawer (preferably an adjustable one), a height-adjustable middle rack, good energy efficiency, good drying performance, and if possible under €500 (The kitchen itself turned out more expensive than we had hoped). And of course, preferably with good test ratings. Do you have any recommendations?
I look forward to your help and responses.
Also, it just occurred to me that it’s important whether the interior floor of the machine is metal or if it’s better to have it made of plastic. This is the result of searching through too many tests and forums—I’m just confused now.
Thank you in advance and have a good start to the week!

IKEA-Profi13 Jun 2016 06:46To be honest, I find all the criticism about the appliances hard to understand.
Among other things, I have had a dishwasher for almost 15 years (bought from the bargain section), from a time when the appliances were supposedly "worse," and I have never had a single problem until today...
IKEA does not want to "force" customers to buy their own appliances; however, there are numerous systems and options for attaching fronts—sometimes differing even from one appliance to another within the same brand—so it is simply not possible to offer fronts compatible with all appliances.
It’s good that you got the pull hinge. Whether you can actually install it on your alternative appliance, considering its technology, is another matter...
You can also buy a 60x60cm (24x24 inches) door and a 60x20cm (24x8 inches) front panel in the matching décor, and connect them with a “joint” that IKEA also sells. Then the narrow front panel at the bottom folds open when you open the dishwasher. This also works with a non-IKEA appliance, but from the outside, you’ll have the look of a split front.

Sektionschef13 Jun 2016 07:43Hello
You can choose dishwashers from various brands that fit into the Ikea Metod kitchen system.
For this, the option "Dishwasher suitable for Ikea Metod kitchens" must be selected at the bottom left.
Best regards
