Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

2. No, only with a special hinge, for example called a variable hinge by Siemens / Bosch. I wouldn’t rule out that there is a manufacturer that generally offers 80cm (32 inches) tall fronts on taller dishwashers.

No, I am not aware of such dishwashers. The current niche sizes for all built-in appliances have been established over decades; no one is currently developing a new platform because the quantities are too small and therefore the costs too high.
This is also a reason why the built-in fridge-freezer combinations in Metod kitchens stand elevated on a heavy-duty base rather than directly on the cabinet floor—again, because niche sizes are well established. Perhaps this might change someday if other kitchen manufacturers start adjusting these dimensions.
One more thing: the trend for dishwashers is moving away from semi-integrated models across all kitchen manufacturers—some are adopting this more decisively, others more cautiously.

miss-marple30 Mar 2014 12:21Hello,
The installation manual for my Miele states a maximum door height of 81 cm (32 inches) for the XXL machines.
You can also view the installation manual for Miele online. Just select one of the XXL machines, go to the download section, and then to the installation instructions. Unfortunately, I cannot provide the link.
According to this, a Miele machine should be able to fit into the Metod kitchen system without needing to use the new mounting bracket. I also prefer to attach the kitchen cabinet door directly to the machine door. In my opinion, the doors of fully integrated machines are quite unstable, even with Miele. They are supposed to gain more stability from the kitchen front, which is then permanently installed and not on sliding rails.
Best regards

The same should apply to the Ikea dishwasher Enastaende. The installation manual shows that the front panel is also mounted directly onto the dishwasher door.

IKEA-Experte31 Mar 2014 12:07From what I understand in the manuals, with Miele the door is fixed in place, and it may be necessary to cut the plinth panel slightly. In contrast, with Enastaende, the door slides upwards when opened.

Accordingly, a Miele appliance should be installable into the Metod kitchen without needing to use this new mounting bracket. ...I took a closer look at the Miele...
Interesting what they have come up with, but I don’t think it’s that simple with Metod:
1. Miele has redesigned the machine’s base so that it slopes upward and backward from the foot, allowing for tall fronts, but...
2. Even with Faktum and 70cm (27.5 inches) fronts, you already need to notch out the plinth to prevent the dishwasher door from hitting the plinth.
3. This system is limited because there is only a small gap between the base and the plane of the fronts—around 7cm (2.75 inches)—which likely won’t work with the Miele.
4. The Metod plinths are made of PVC with a honeycomb structure inside, so they probably can’t be easily trimmed in height like the Faktum plinths made of particleboard.
However, I can’t measure the distance between the base and the kitchen front on Metod to be sure if it fits or not.
Just as an aside, some time ago I had the chance to speak with an AEG technician who said that since AEG patented their sliding hinge, Miele has reportedly asked twice whether they could license it. AEG declined, and Miele apparently also stalled them back then with their cutlery drawer...
By the way, all of this is moot—if you want dishwasher cabinet fronts, which is the main advantage of the Metod system, you can’t avoid mounting rails, so it also can’t be mounted directly to the dishwasher.
