Hello everyone, I have a squeaky door on my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet that has been getting louder over time. The door is attached with hinges, and I suspect the squeaking is coming from them. My question is: How can I reliably fix this squeak? Are there specific techniques or particular lubricants that are especially suitable for the Ikea Metod system? I also want to avoid impairing the door’s function or damaging the mechanism. I would appreciate detailed repair tips and any advice on components I should check to resolve the issue permanently.

Hello, your problem with the squeaky door is a common issue with Metod cabinets. The squeaking usually comes from the hinges when dirt or dust accumulates or the lubricant dries out. My advice: use a silicone or Teflon spray, as these lubricants not only provide smooth movement but also do not attract dirt. Apply the spray directly to the hinge joints, then open and close the door several times to distribute the lubricant evenly. Avoid oils like sewing machine oil, as they can become sticky over time or attract dust.

Thank you, that makes sense. Do you happen to know if I can buy replacement hinges from Ikea in case they are damaged? And what is the best way to access the joints without removing the door?

As an addition: Most hinges in Ikea Metod are clip-on, so they can be easily removed. To access the joints, it is usually enough to open the door partially and spray silicone lubricant directly onto the hinge. If the noise does not disappear, sometimes fully loosening the hinge helps for a more thorough cleaning. If the hinges are completely worn out because the mechanism is sticking or the metal has become too rough, replacement may be necessary. Ikea offers the hinges individually, specifically for the Metod system.

Spray silicone grease onto the hinge joints. If that is not sufficient, remove the door, clean thoroughly, and then re-lubricate.

That sounds doable. I’m just wondering if this will affect the original soft-close hinges from Ikea — the door usually closes very smoothly, and I want to avoid compromising that function. Does anyone have experience with dampers on squeaky hinges?
