Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

eriwikinger6 Mar 2017 12:06Hello dear community,
Can someone tell me if I can properly install the dishwasher with ERSÄTTARE or BEHJÄLPLIG rails? Do I have to cut the fronts myself, or is there something ready-made from IKEA?
If necessary, can someone recommend another appliance? 45cm (18 inches) wide, max. 500,- EUR, brand name?
Thank you very much and best regards
CasiEverything has been discussed many times here; the easiest way is to get an IKEA dishwasher and that's it.
Only appliances with Vario rails fit—these here, for example from Siemens:
SX736X03ME
SN758X06TE
You cannot use IKEA rails to mount a non-IKEA dishwasher; that won’t fit.
Hello, I am currently assembling my Metod kitchen. Everything is going quite well, except for the frustrating issue with the dishwasher, as is the case for everyone. We also have a fully integrated dishwasher from Siemens. The Ikea staff only gave us this Vagli rail, and we decided on a two-piece dishwasher front for aesthetic reasons. Our problem now is: How do we attach the fronts to the dishwasher? It has a continuous hole in the middle, hooks for hanging at the bottom, and something at the top for screwing in. Would a Vario hinge help with this? Or is it even possible to install that on the machine afterwards? I have only read about appliances that already had it installed…
Also, routing the front panel is not really an option for us.
Thank you in advance

Hello everyone,
I registered specifically because of this thread.
For my new Ikea kitchen, I chose a standard Bosch dishwasher without the variable hinge, as I really wanted the Timelight feature. Now, of course, I’m facing the problem with the front panel.
So far, I’m not completely happy with the appearance of all the options.
- The Stefan method is good, but when you open it, there’s always a long piece of the front panel extending out, which doesn’t look very nice.
- I like the Bosch/Siemens folding hinge, but you have to cut the front panel. Since my Kungsbacka front has a 45° bevel at the top and bottom, it doesn’t look very good.
- The Ikea option with the “sled” isn’t 100% visually appealing to me either.
Now I’ve thought of something new, but I’m not sure if it would work because of the steam…
You could attach an Ikea drawer on top with a 10cm (5 inches) high front and shorten a 60x80cm (24x31.5 inches) front panel by 10cm (5 inches). The drawer would then be installed above the dishwasher. This would consist of a “Kungsbacka drawer front anthracite 60x10 cm” (24x4 inches) and a “Maximera drawer, low 60x60 cm” (24x24 inches). Of course, you would also need corresponding side panels, as the drawer requires a cabinet frame. And underneath, another panel would be needed to support the dishwasher and prevent it from tilting. I guess this might not work in terms of height with XXL appliances.
Visually, I think it would fit well for me, as the oven next to it also has a control panel with a height of about 10cm (5 inches). What do you think of this? Would it even be possible regarding the steam exposure?
Best regards,
Robin

That won’t work. If you choose the standard 8cm (3 inches) high legs from Ikea kitchens, the niche height will then only be 70 + 8 cm (28 + 3 inches) .. and I don’t know of dishwashers that are 78 cm (31 inches) high. Also, you need to make sure the dishwasher allows for a maximum 8 cm (3 inches) base or plinth height.
For an XXL machine, the front panel usually protrudes by a maximum of 2 cm (1 inch) at the top, which is absolutely acceptable.
