Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Hello to the fan community, I have now read through the front issue. Unfortunately, I discovered it too late. The kitchen is installed, but with an 80cm (31.5 inches) plinth height, a 45cm (18 inches) Bosch dishwasher (already bought by our son, the kitchen is for him) simply does not fit because the door won’t open. Now my question: who has a medium-sized machine and are you satisfied with it? Or does anyone have another solution besides buying a new one? We appreciate any feedback.

A two-part facade with ERSÄTTARE would still be possible.

Thanks for the quick response. We also considered splitting it into two parts, but it would look unusual since there are panels of 40, 20, and 20 (all in millimeters) arranged to the left and right of the dishwasher, so the small panel at the bottom would definitely stand out. We also thought about making a new front from the 9 mm (⅜ inch) niche back panel material (Nebraska oak grey-brown, double laminated, with a new edge applied, and we still have some material left). Although this would create a more distinct break, the narrow strip might be less noticeable than it is now with the white fronts. Plus, the decor would be consistent. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Could this work?

Thanks for the quick reply. We also considered dividing it into two parts, but it would look unusual because on both sides of the dishwasher there are panels measuring 40, 20, and 20 centimeters (16, 8, and 8 inches),

Next to it 20 - 40 - 20? Shouldn’t frequently used items that you don’t want to place at the very bottom go into the 40-centimeter (16-inch) units?
And the decor matches. Is there any opinion on that? Could it work?
Already bought by our son; the kitchen is for him

What does the boy think? It has to appeal to him.

Well, the guy is working abroad for a quarter of a year and has entrusted his parents with completing the kitchen because the preparatory work took longer than expected. The layout of the cabinets, drawers, etc. – all his design. We are not interfering with that. We are implementing what he planned. Until the dishwasher, everything mostly went well. We already had a video call today but couldn’t reach a conclusion. Well, it’s fifty-fifty between buying a new one or splitting the door. Neither is an ideal solution.
But thanks.

Can't you lower the already purchased dishwasher enough to create a gap between the dishwasher and the countertop that you can cover? Then the door should open if you align it flush with the countertop at the top. This has already been discussed here before...
