Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or BehjÀlplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; BehjÀlplig for HjÀlpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also ErsÀttare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, ErsÀttare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for ErsÀttare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

I thought these vaglig rails are solely meant to connect drawer fronts into a single large front panel. ...

Well, the connecting rails do join the fronts, but they still add some thickness, even with the single stand and the sliding hinge, approximately 3–4 mm (0.1–0.15 inches), if I recall correctly from last year in Norway.

Is there anyone from LĂŒbeck or the surrounding area who could measure this?

Hello everyone,

From what I understand on the UK site, there is also an 80cm (31.5 inches) high door. So the fronts wouldn’t need to be connected.

It’s not always necessary to cut out the plinth when installing the Miele dishwasher, even though the manual suggests it. In our Faktum kitchen with a plinth about 16.5cm (6.5 inches) high, we installed an XXL machine and the 70cm (27.5 inches) door fits, even though we were told otherwise in the store.

With the 80cm (31.5 inches) door, you probably need to cut it, but you could attach the door directly to the cabinet front. This works really well with Miele.

@IKEA-Experte,

I haven’t specifically looked into Siemens or that particular model. However, since BSH is a large group, I assume that Bosch, Siemens, NEFF, and Gaggenau, their derivative brands, share the same platform and even use the same names for the same hinges and other components. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be much fun for the marketing people to constantly come up with and establish new names.

Next time I visit the Planet and similar places or a kitchen showroom, I’ll take a closer look at the hinge...

Until then, I’m skeptical because I don’t have the measurement from the base to the vertical front panels on Metod either.

@MissMarple

That’s actually the clever part about Metod: finally being able to cover the dishwasher so that the horizontal lines remain uninterrupted. And this is only possible by using those rails, which add some depth but are only visible when open, or by mortising the drawer fronts. However, which DIY enthusiast or kitchen installer is going to do that on site and how much time and effort would that require?

By the way, this dishwasher panel solution for fully integrated non-IKEA dishwashers, BehjÀlplig, has apparently been removed from all IKEA websites (at least SE, NO, DK, and GB). It might not have worked as well as expected, or there could have been other reasons.

The solution with the folding hinge, ERSÄTTARE, is still listed on the websites.

I will visit IKEA next week and inquire about this.

Strangely, the Finns still have this on their website.

At the beginning of April, the product range always changes a lot, and some items disappear for just a few days. This has happened many times before, for whatever reason. Of course, that doesn’t mean everything that disappears will come back eventually.
