Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

With Metod, you can omit the mounting rails and place the cabinets directly against the wall. This also significantly reduces the cabinet depth.
If Bejälplig is no longer available, you could still use Ersättare instead.
Although this is intended for semi-integrated dishwashers, it should also work just as well for fully integrated dishwashers.

However, you have to keep in mind that Metod now "requires" worktops that are 1.5cm (0.6 inches) deeper, and at our local Bauhaus (which opened fairly recently, so I assume it has a relatively new range), they only have affordable worktops that are 61cm (24 inches) deep.

With METOD, you definitely need to consider this. I just remembered that back then, the worktops were only 61cm (24 inches) deep, and I screwed a 1cm (0.4 inches) thick wooden strip onto the back, which is then covered by the wall trim (also from Bauhaus). I’m pretty sure I saw some with 62cm (24.5 inches) depth about a year later and thought it was a shame they weren’t available earlier. That must have just been a short-lived phase.

Hi LotF, hi Ikea expert,

I still have Faktum cabinets, and by clever positioning, we managed 10 years ago to cover the Ärlig fronts (16mm deep) with a standard 60cm (24-inch) countertop from the hardware store. After changing the fronts, Norje (19mm deep) unfortunately now sticks out. At the hardware stores here, I can still only find 60cm (24-inch) countertops. Other depths are only available by special order, and in that case, IKEA is probably cheaper for me. If I go with laminate (the ideas about stone and acrylic are no longer current), I can get a matching design with one standard and one Personlig countertop; at the hardware store, both would have to be ordered.

Maybe as a general suggestion: friends of ours (hobby cooks with a son training as a chef) recently got a countertop with a 5cm (2-inch) overhang and are very happy because hardly anything spills onto the fronts anymore. At the moment, countertops with only a slight overhang are popular not only at IKEA; you can also order deeper sizes there.

Since we are not hobby cooks and just need a basic setup for a family with three kids, Metod on Faktum is enough for me.

Best regards

If Bejälplig is no longer available, you could still use Ersättare instead. Although it is designed for semi-integrated dishwashers, it should work just as well for fully integrated dishwashers.

However, it would be quite a bit less attractive than a continuous front panel without a flip mechanism!

IKEA expert,
I also heard/read that Bauhaus has 62cm (24.4 inches) countertops... well, part of my countertop will be 70cm (27.6 inches) anyway (although assembled from sections for the foreseeable future), and for the other part there is just a cabinet, with the plan to leave out the edging strip to hopefully save about 1cm (0.4 inches). I’m not using deep fronts either – it should work out.

Miss-Marple, yes, I think acquaintances have done something similar in their kitchen. For me, even just 1cm (0.4 inches) is enough.

Oh, one more thing I noticed:
It’s about the attachment at the bottom of the front panel. It is not the same as the mounting bracket, right? Couldn’t you then mount the front panel on two drawer slides that are connected to the dishwasher door? The plastic parts that clip onto the door of the IKEA dishwasher don’t really do anything different, do they?

Then there are also Ersättare. Such a fastening system is apparently already available from other suppliers. It is not particularly aesthetically pleasing with Metod, since the front panel is longer than the adjacent ones. We are talking about approximately 13cm (5 inches) control panel, a 10cm (4 inch) drawer front, a 40cm (16 inch) or two 20cm (8 inch) fronts, and a 20cm (8 inch) panel at the bottom, totaling 83cm (33 inches) alongside 80cm (31½ inches) high cabinet carcasses.

Nayla, I don’t fully understand this.
You only need to shorten the 10cm (4 inch) front under the control panel by about 3cm (1 inch), then the whole appearance should look uniform again, right?
The only unattractive issue remaining is that you always need a 20cm (8 inch) bottom front panel for opening.
If Behjälplig is actually discontinued completely with no replacement, then Ersättare would be the only solution for non-Ikea dishwashers and could be used for both semi-integrated and fully integrated appliances.
