Hello everyone, I recently received a new kitchen with IKEA Metod matte finish fronts and am currently unsure about the best way to clean them gently and effectively.

I am particularly interested in which cleaning products I can use without damaging the matte surface or making it shiny. Are there specific techniques to keep the fronts looking matte and fresh for a longer time?

Additionally, I would like to know how to deal with stubborn stains without harming the surface.

I appreciate any detailed answers, as I am not yet familiar with the material and want to treat the surface with care.

Hello, I recommend cleaning Ikea Metod matte fronts with warm water and a mild dish soap. A soft microfiber cloth is ideal to prevent scratches. You should definitely avoid harsh cleaning agents and abrasive cleaners.

As an additional note: The matte fronts of Ikea Metod cabinets are usually covered with a melamine or foil coating, which is sensitive to strong solvents. Therefore, I recommend using only neutral cleaning agents and avoiding products containing alcohol or ammonia.

Recommended cleaning method:
- Lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap
- Soft microfiber cloth
- Do not scrub; wipe gently

Stubborn stains can be carefully treated with a damp cloth using minimal pressure. If necessary, a specialty plastic cleaner tested on the product may help.

An important point I would like to address is the risk that matte surfaces can quickly become shiny or develop spots if cleaned incorrectly.

Therefore, I recommend the following approach:

1. Always test first in an inconspicuous area.
2. Always dilute cleaning agents: concentrates can damage the matte coating.
3. Do not use microfiber cloths with more than 300 GSM; rougher cloths can cause micro-scratches.
4. For stains, a gentle cleaning with lukewarm water and a drop of emollient soap, if available, is advisable.
5. After cleaning, dry the surface with a soft, dry cotton cloth to avoid water spots.

What exactly do the stains look like? Oily, paint, lime scale? This would influence the choice of cleaning agents.

Thanks in advance for the tips.

The stains I usually get are from everyday cooking: grease splashes, sometimes water spots, and occasionally dried tomato sauce.

Can you tell me if there are any risks involved in cleaning the fronts with vinegar water or alcohol-based solutions? I’ve heard that especially matte surfaces can be sensitive to these substances, but I’m not sure how much they actually affect the surface.

Vinegar and alcohol-based cleaners are not recommended for matte Ikea Metod fronts. They chemically attack the surface, can remove the matte effect, and cause uneven gloss or even material damage.

It is better to use neutral, pH-neutral cleaners and work gently, preferably with mechanical cleaning.
