reodiHello everyone, I recently installed a kitchen with Ikea Metod countertops and would like to know how to clean them properly without leaving scratches or stains.
I understand that some cleaning products can damage the surface, especially on heavily used countertops. My main question is: Which cleaning agents and methods are specifically suitable for Ikea Metod countertops to keep them clean and well-maintained without damaging the surface?
Additionally, I’m interested in whether there are any special tips for removing stubborn stains such as grease or red wine without harming the countertop surface.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

For cleaning Ikea Metod countertops, Ikea recommends using mild soap solutions or special dishwashing detergent solutions.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch or dull the surface.
- A soft cloth or sponge is ideal for cleaning the surface.
- For stubborn stains, such as grease, a mixture of water and a few drops of vinegar can help, but this should be used only briefly and with caution.
For stain removal, Ikea generally advises cleaning the surface immediately after any spills to prevent penetration.
For red wine or similar stains, it is best to wipe them immediately and avoid letting them dry; otherwise, a mild commercial cleaner can be used.
The general rule is: less is more, to avoid damaging the material.

Hello! I can only confirm the advice from KAULIS. It is really important to start by cleaning the countertop with a mild detergent. If you don’t have a special kitchen cleaner, warm water with some dish soap works just as well.
Another tip: especially with Metod countertops made of coated material, you can also very gently use a microfiber cloth, which helps prevent scratches from coarser dirt.
For tougher stains like dried red wine or oil, I recommend soaking the stain with a damp cloth first and then gently polishing it—never use harsh abrasives or steel wool, as that will damage the surface.
As always, try to clean spills as soon as possible, especially liquids that can leave color or grease stains.

I understand wanting to play it safe with countertops—after all, no one wants scratches or unsightly stains in their kitchen.
What helped me was cleaning the countertops regularly and gently, rather than exposing them to too much wear and tear. Especially if you cook a lot, it’s important not to let food residue or liquids dry on the surface.
Sometimes I’ve even had good results using just plain tap water and a soft sponge—without much effort or harsh chemicals.
I also think it’s important to take time for proper care to preserve the surface in the long run.
What are your experiences with less common home remedies?

I also think it is important to consciously take time for maintenance to preserve the surface in the long term. That is an important point. Maintenance plays a significant role in the lifespan of the countertop.
One more addition: For very stubborn stains such as dried-on grease, you should try special degreasers at the lowest concentration and avoid leaving them on for an extended period.
Always wipe off with water immediately after use to remove any residue.
