siduleHello everyone,
I recently installed the IKEA Metod kitchen and am now looking for suitable care products for the cabinet fronts. My question specifically concerns which cleaning agents and maintenance products are appropriate for the different surfaces of the Metod fronts (e.g., foil laminate, matte, glossy, painted) without damaging or disfiguring them.
Perhaps someone has experience with products that protect the material over time, do not cause stickiness, or leave a chalky residue. Is it better to avoid harsh cleaners, or are there certain products that IKEA itself recommends? Tips on cleaning methods (e.g., types of cloths, moisture levels, temperature) would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your detailed tips and suggestions!

Hello sidule,
very well formulated and detailed question. For IKEA Metod fronts, especially the foil-coated variants, I generally recommend using mild cleaning agents. The best option is a neutral dishwashing liquid solution (a few drops of dish soap in warm water) and a soft microfiber cloth.
It is important to never use abrasive sponges or aggressive cleaners such as ammonia or alcohol, as these can damage the surface. Also, avoid solvents or chlorine-based cleaners.
Cloths should always be well wrung out so that no liquid seeps into the edges. After cleaning with a damp cloth, the fronts should always be wiped dry.
For painted fronts, products free of wax and silicones are suitable. Often the same simple cleaning agents are sufficient. If you want to be extra safe, you can also try special furniture cleaners for plastic surfaces that create a protective layer without becoming sticky.
I hope this helps you for now!

As a supplement: It is advisable to test new cleaning products first in an inconspicuous area. Especially with glossy Metod fronts, using the wrong care products can quickly cause dull spots or streaks.
As a general rule, I recommend:
- Do not use harsh cleaners
- Do not use abrasive sponges or brushes
- Clean with a soft cloth
- Wipe dry with a dry cloth
This way, you can treat the surface gently and avoid damage.
