Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the best way to clean Metod fronts gently in order to preserve their original shine for as long as possible. Many common cleaning agents or overly aggressive cleaners tend to leave surfaces looking dull over time or even cause microscopic damage that significantly affects the gloss.

I am particularly interested in which cleaning products or methods have proven effective for regular cleaning of the fronts without roughening the coating or surface. Are there specific products that are less aggressive yet still effectively remove dirt and grease?

Additionally, any tips on how to apply them would be helpful: What is the best approach, which tools (types of cloths, pads, sponges) are suitable, and how often should the fronts ideally be cleaned?

Thanks in advance for any detailed advice and experiences!

For Metod fronts, I always recommend using clear water with a soft microfiber cloth. For grease stains, use a mild dishwashing detergent and then wipe again with clear water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Metod fronts are usually melamine-coated or have a plastic surface. This means that aggressive cleaning agents or abrasive sponges can damage the surface, which may reduce its gloss over time.

The best cleaning approach is to use pH-neutral cleaners and a soft microfiber cloth. A recommended procedure is:

- First, remove loose dirt with a dry cloth
- Then clean with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and a mild cleaner
- Rinse with clean water to avoid residue
- Dry with a fresh, soft cloth

Cleaning once a week is generally sufficient, except in cases of heavy use.

I always use a cloth soaked in water with a bit of neutral soap. Then wipe thoroughly with clear water while still wet. Always rub gently.

Thank you for the quick responses.

@Joshbe, your description of pH-neutral cleaning sounds very reasonable. Are there specific product names or ingredients I should look for? And what about alcohol-based cleaners? I have read that they are often used for disinfection, but could they affect the shine?

I am also wondering whether cleaning too frequently with water and cleaners could damage the surface in the long term or if it is rather helpful to prevent a layer of dirt.

Alcohol-based cleaners can damage the surface of Metod fronts and reduce their gloss, especially when used frequently and undiluted. It is better to use mild, pH-neutral products that do not contain solvents.

Regarding frequency: Daily cleaning does clean the surface, but frequent moisture exposure can harm the coating. Thorough cleaning once a week is usually sufficient, with dusting using a dry cloth in between.
