Hello everyone,
I recently installed the IKEA Metod kitchen and am now looking for suitable care products for the cabinet fronts. My question specifically concerns which cleaning agents and maintenance products are appropriate for the different surfaces of the Metod fronts (e.g., foil laminate, matte, glossy, painted) without damaging or disfiguring them.
Perhaps someone has experience with products that protect the material over time, do not cause stickiness, or leave a chalky residue. Is it better to avoid harsh cleaners, or are there certain products that IKEA itself recommends? Tips on cleaning methods (e.g., types of cloths, moisture levels, temperature) would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your detailed tips and suggestions!

Thank you for the detailed responses so far!
I have one more question: How often would you generally clean and maintain the fronts? And if you use any specific products, how often should they be applied to avoid damaging the material while still keeping a good surface?
Even though IKEA recommends simple cleaning, I’m interested in your opinion on possible maintenance routines.

Good question! Basically, wiping the fronts once a week with a damp cloth and mild dish soap is sufficient, depending on how often they are used.
You can apply protective care products (e.g., special plastic care) every 3 to 6 months. This helps avoid over-care, which could discolor or smudge the surface.
For heavily used areas, such as around the stove or sink, more frequent cleaning is recommended, but always gently and followed by drying with a soft cloth.
The key is a regular but not excessive maintenance routine.

One last question from my side, which might also be of interest to others:
Are there any adhesives or materials that should definitely be avoided for Metod fronts? For example, cleaners, cloths, or maintenance products that seem to work well initially but could cause damage in the long run?
Thanks in advance for the helpful tips!

- Alcohol-based cleaners that can dissolve the coating
- Abrasive sponges or steel wool
- Microfiber cloths with a rough texture (e.g., those that trap sand or dirt particles and then scratch)
- Products containing silicone or wax, which may cause stickiness or yellowing
- Vacuum cleaners with rotating brush edges, as they can create scratches
In the long run, I also recommend avoiding overly aggressive, highly chemical cleaners, as these can make the surface brittle.
The most important thing is to treat the fronts with gentle products and keep sharp objects away.
