Hello everyone,

I joined this forum because I’m looking for a gentle yet effective cleaning method for the countertops from the Ikea Metod kitchen system. Specifically, I have a countertop made of white laminate with a fairly smooth surface, which tends to discolor more easily due to water spots and occasional food stains.

I’m especially interested in which cleaning products can be used safely without damaging the surface or wearing down the protective coating over time.

Are there any special cleaning tips that work well for everyday use as well as for tougher stains?

I’m really looking forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Generally, I recommend using mild cleaning agents for Ikea Metod laminate countertops. Ideally, pH-neutral cleaners or simply a soft cloth with lukewarm water and, if needed, a drop of dish soap should be used. It is important not to use abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals, as these can roughen the surface and cause permanent dullness.

After cleaning, the countertop should be thoroughly dried to prevent water spots.

Regarding cleaning products: Ikea itself advises against using harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or abrasive scrubbing agents on Metod countertops. The surface is typically made of melamine resin or laminate, which can be damaged by aggressive substances.

Recommended are:
- Warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap
- Microfiber or soft cotton cloths

For tougher stains, diluted vinegar essence can be used, but only locally and followed by thorough rinsing with water. Always dry well after cleaning, as prolonged moisture can cause damage.

For tougher crusts, you can use vinegar essence (in a strongly diluted form), but only spot treat and rinse thoroughly with water afterwards.

I can only confirm that. For my white Metod countertop, citric acid in a lightly diluted form has also proven effective, but here too, use sparingly and carefully. For everyday stains, I usually only use warm water and dish soap, which keeps the surface looking good for a long time.

I completely understand the concern about damaging the surface. I was also afraid of making mistakes at first because I really grew fond of the countertop. What helped me was adopting light cleaning routines using soft cloths—definitely no scrubbing and absolutely no coarse sponges.

I can only confirm this. If you wipe up small accidents quickly, the countertop will stay looking great for a very long time.

For quick cleaning:
- Lukewarm water + dish soap
- Microfiber cloth or soft cloth

For stains: use diluted vinegar essence, then wipe and dry.

Do not use abrasives or bleach.
