Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Nayla_10683 Apr 2014 17:47Hello everyone,
I can share some information about the dishwasher mounting brackets from IKEA, and I hope this is still needed.
RESONLIG, as already mentioned, is designed for fully integrated IKEA dishwashers made after August 2012. These units have guides on the outside of the plastic panel to accommodate the pull hinge. We are talking about models like Rengöra, Skinande, the new LAGAN, and some Renlig models. Enastaende, as you already pointed out, includes the pull hinge.
Behjälplig is for Hjälpsam and fully integrated IKEA units built before August 2012, as well as third-party devices. However, it cannot be guaranteed that the bracket will fit securely in these cases. The special feature of Behjälplig is that the mounting is also fixed to the adjacent base cabinets. Therefore, it is not possible to place a unit using this bracket at the end of a run. The dishwasher should always be installed with a cabinet on both the right and left sides, or at least with a lowered countertop. By the way, with Behjälplig, it does not matter whether the dishwasher is 45 or 60 centimeters (18 or 24 inches) wide.
Then there is Ersättare. Such a mounting system apparently exists with other manufacturers as well. It is not particularly aesthetically pleasing with Metod kitchen units because the front panel is longer than the neighboring cabinets. We are talking about approximately a 13cm (5 inches) control panel, a 10cm (4 inches) drawer front, a 40cm (16 inches) or two 20cm (8 inches) fronts, plus a 20cm (8 inches) base panel below, totaling 83cm (33 inches) compared to the 80cm (31 inches) high cabinets. Drawer fronts MUST always be installed because the 20cm (8 inches) base panel at the bottom flips open forward or upward when the dishwasher door opens, so it does not touch the floor. Ersättare only fits 60cm (24 inches) semi-integrated units; there is still nothing available for 45cm (18 inches).
Vaglig is used with Enastaende, Resonlig, and Behjälplig for 60cm (24 inches) wide units to connect drawer fronts. It is not suitable for mounting directly onto the front panel.
If the dishwasher is designed for door sizes up to 80cm (31 inches), the front can be mounted directly as usual. There are no more issues with the plinth because it is recessed further back.
Just under nine weeks left until the launch in Germany. I’m very curious to see how theory finally meets practice. I’ve already seen some smaller showroom kitchens, but I would have liked to visit Lübeck. Unfortunately, it’s a bit too far for a day trip.
Best regards,
Nayla

IKEA-Experte3 Apr 2014 18:02Hello Nayla,
the assembly instructions for ERSÄTTARE show that the drawer front is supposed to be cut to the correct size below the control panel and the edge sealed with the supplied strip. That way, the total width would always be 80cm (31.5 inches). Or did I misunderstand something?

Additionally, I would like to ask if you are aware of anything regarding Behjälplig being discontinued? The link to Behjälplig no longer works on the Ikea websites for SE, DK, NO, and now also FI.

Nayla_10684 Apr 2014 22:12Hello IKEA expert, hello section manager,
I haven’t seen the assembly instructions for Ersättare yet. My documents don’t mention shortening the 10mm (0.4 inch) cover panel, but it makes sense to do so in order to return to the 80mm (3.1 inch) dimension, rather than having a step.
Honestly, I can’t imagine that Behjälplig was discontinued. Apart from third-party devices, IKEA wouldn’t be able to offer the Hjälpsam dishwasher anymore. It simply can’t work without a front panel. What I could imagine is that there was a quality issue and Behjälplig was temporarily halted. This happens quite often. Once the issue is fixed, the item usually appears online again.
By the way, what about you? Will you be in the kitchen department on June 2nd?
Regards
Nayla

miss-marple6 Apr 2014 15:29How about you? Will you be at the kitchen department on June 2nd? Everyone living along the Dutch border can start as early as tomorrow, April 7th.
One must consider that Metod now "requires" countertops that are 1.5cm deeper, and at our local home improvement store (which has opened relatively recently, so I assume the selection is fairly new), they only have affordable countertops that are 61cm (24 inches) deep. Luckily, my backsplash is about 2cm (0.8 inches) deep, so I would only lose 0.5cm (0.2 inches) if I choose a countertop from there. The good side: it’s cheaper, and I also prefer the look!
Regarding the dishwasher fronts: mine is being delivered tomorrow, and I researched this yesterday. I really hope that the rail system will be available again soon (ideally by the product launch in the Netherlands/Germany). Otherwise, that would be extremely frustrating!
