Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Hello,
I’m not clear on this yet: Is it necessary to use a special sliding mechanism with Metod, or can the front still be fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before? Does this have to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?

Yes, it is necessary. Previously, the dishwasher front protruded slightly below the appliance. This is no longer possible with the taller front.
But I haven’t figured out yet which one I need for a non-Ikea dishwasher.

Helpful, but it’s not available on the French and English sites. Maybe it doesn’t work properly?
Does that mean I cannot have a continuous front on a semi-integrated dishwasher???

Correct.
Additionally, the installation instructions state that the upper partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches) must be cut depending on the dishwasher’s panel height. I assume this only applies to fronts without a relief pattern, because if I cut, for example, a Lidingö front with 20cm (8 inches) height in the middle, I would destroy the relief pattern???

That seems like nonsense. The dishwasher’s control panel is taller than 10cm (4 inches). Therefore, the part that needs to be cut is less than 10cm (4 inches) high. So, a 10cm (4 inches) drawer front can be trimmed. Why it’s not shown to mount a custom-cut 60cm (24 inches) front above the 20cm (8 inches) front is unclear to me. Perhaps because then it wouldn’t be a drawer front with pre-drilled holes? It should be possible.

Only Nayla should know the details here.

Thank you, IKEA expert!!!
Your answers have already helped me understand the situation much better.

Yes, you have to. Previously, the dishwasher front could swing slightly under the appliance. With the tall front, this is no longer possible.

I don’t quite understand that. Why can the front no longer swing under the appliance with Metod? Would it help to cut out a section of the plinth so that a fixed front could be installed?

I don’t understand why it wasn’t shown that a custom-cut 60cm (24 inches) front can be installed above the 20cm (8 inches) front.

I’m not quite clear about the custom-cut 60cm (24 inches) front. With fronts that have embossed patterns, I would also be cutting through the design, wouldn’t I? In this case, only (from bottom to top) a 20cm (8 inches), a 40cm (16 inches), and a cut 10cm (4 inches) front can be used, right?

1. There is not enough space under the dishwasher. With a larger plinth recess, it would no longer be stable.

2. Yes, but with smooth fronts it would work. A 20cm (8 inch) drawer front is shown, although for some fronts that doesn’t make sense; in those cases, a 60cm (24 inch) front could also be shown.

...

Dishwashers are typically designed for front panels up to about 74.5 cm (29.3 inches) high. METOD has 80 cm (31.5 inches) fronts, which requires a swivel mechanism or the Enastände system with the swivel/slide hinge patented by AEG/Electrolux.

Thanks to you all!
Did I understand this correctly: The higher the front panel is, the more it protrudes below at the dishwasher door, and the more it "slides" under the appliance when the door opens?
How does this work with XXL dishwashers? That would mean larger fronts should be possible. Is it possible to mount the front directly onto the dishwasher door for those (for Metod kitchens)?
