Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I purchased a kitchen with Ikea Metod fronts and now want to clean them as gently yet effectively as possible – using environmentally friendly products. I am especially interested in methods and products that do not contain harsh chemicals that could damage the surfaces or harm the environment.

How can I best remove stains, grease, or fingerprints without risking scratches or dull spots? Which home remedies or natural-based cleaners have worked well for you? Perhaps there are also special care tips for the fronts to keep them looking good for as long as possible?

I know that the Metod fronts are made of coated material, so I avoid aggressive cleaning agents. Thank you very much for your experiences and advice!

Hello la_ned,

I’d be happy to help you. Ikea Metod fronts are usually coated with melamine, which can be sensitive to abrasive cleaners. Therefore, I would recommend paying attention to the following:

- Use lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
- Apply with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent scratches.
- For grease stains, vinegar water works best (1 part vinegar, 2 parts water).
- Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia.

Personally, I sometimes use diluted denatured alcohol for a final polish; it removes fingerprints well and is environmentally friendly in small amounts.

Important: Always test in an inconspicuous spot first to make sure nothing becomes dull.

Hope this helps!

Vinegar water works well on grease stains and is environmentally friendly. Just do not leave it on for too long, as it can cause dulling.

Great topic! I love it when you can clean furniture thoroughly while protecting the environment!

Here are my tips:
- First, always wipe away coarse dust with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Then polish with a splash of lemon juice in water, which is fresh and natural.
- And don’t worry: rub gently and clean more often rather than scrubbing harshly!

Give it a try, everyone – it’s fun and your kitchen will look fantastic afterwards! :-)

For cleaning Ikea Metod fronts, I strongly recommend the following approach:

- Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh solvents, as they can damage the melamine coating.
- Use pH-neutral cleaning agents or homemade solutions made from water mixed with diluted vinegar or citric acid.
- Apply gently with microfiber cloths or soft sponges.
- Test a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning stubborn stains.

In my experience, maintaining the surface with occasional polishing using a lint-free, slightly damp cloth extends the lifespan of the finish. This way, the front stays visually intact while minimizing environmental impact.

I would like to follow up regarding the use of vinegar and lemon juice.

However, some materials react sensitively to acids. Is there reliable evidence that the melamine coating on the Ikea Metod fronts is truly resistant to diluted vinegar solutions? I would have assumed that long-term use could damage the surface.

Does anyone have experience with long-term testing or possibly alternative products that are truly gentle and acid-free?
